BOOK REVIEW
Book Title: Technical Writing: A Practical Guide. Vol. 1 & 2.
Author – Charles Effiong Ph.D
Reviewer – Osondu Ahirika
Sometime in November 2024, I received two complimentary copies of two books from renowned scholar, Dr Charles Effiong.
Technical Writing: A Practical Guide is a brilliantly written expressionist textbook that comes in 2 Volumes.
The very detailed book in its first volume consists of eleven expository chapters.
Its entire 272 pages are scripted to enable readers or students to get an easier grasp of writing skills.
It encapsulates efficient techniques for all forms of writing including, Reports, Proposals, Minutes of Meetings, Speech Writing, and even addresses the nuances of Public Speaking.
All of the above subject matters are comprehensively addressed in Volume 1.
The second volume contains seven chapters in the 308 paged book
It covers the more specific area of Research report writing.
An intentional approach to guide students on the rudiments of crafting their research topics and their holistic design thereof.
A bold analysis of documentation styles to help undergraduate and postgraduate students comprehend the updates of both the American Psychological Association (APA), and, Modern Language Association reeling up to their 9th editions.
There’s extra gumption as he deals with the technicalities of writing more personal documents such as memoirs, autobiographical sketches, diaries and curriculum vitae.
The book is written in lucid, articulate and simple diction for easy assimilation by all no matter their educational status.
It is recommended for Teachers, Public speakers, students, Secretaries, journalists, playwrights, authors, clerics, and indeed leaders.
Dr Charles Effiong is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of English, School of Languages, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Akwa Ibom State.
- A former Deputy Provost of the College, he holds a Doctorate Degree in English and has lots of articles, book chapters and books to his credit.
Technical Writing: A Practical Guide Volumes 1& 2, are very essential and verily recommended to complete your library.
