In the spirit of taking development to the people, the about two kilometre Edim Otop road in Calabar Municipality, abandoned over 20 years ago is now ready for traffic, courtesy Cross River state government.
The Edim Etop road was a nightmare to motorists who often spent over 20 minutes to drive through.
But with the intervention of the Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu who has successfully rehabilitated the road, motorists now spend four minutes or less to drive through.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Comrade Nsa Gill, said the road is now open to traffic adding to the Governors “impressive strides in statewide infrastructural renewal”.
He said, “Edim Otop, one of Calabar’s most densely populated areas, had long suffered from poor road conditions, making movement difficult for residents and commuters.
“Today, the transformation is evident, improving both accessibility and the overall living experience in the area”.
When it was under construction.
Remarkably, he said “like other projects under this administration, the rehabilitation was completed in a matter of weeks.
“The road is now fully open, serving as a critical diversion from IBB Avenue to Atimbo and Akpabuyo, easing traffic and boosting economic activities along the corridor”.
Residents and motorists in the area expressed great joy with the project.
Mr Okon Edet, a mini bus driver said, “this is the kind of thing we expect from government. Touching positively on our daily means of livelihood. Things like this matter.
“As you can see, I spent just less than four minutes to drive from this former CUDA junction to Atimbo road with great ease. God will continue to bless the governor for us”.
A resident of the area, Michael Bassey, thrilled with the smooth road said, “for years we suffered on this road that was almost impassable and we cried out for government intervention but to no avail until now that Governor Otu has come and in just few weeks we are now in Canaan. We are happy”.
