December 28, 2024 members of the Lutheran High School (LHS), Obot Idim, G-74 Class had their great Reunion.
The group and their respective families were hosted by Prof. OttoAbasi Akpan.
The occasion was part of an annual classmates’ reunion usually hosted by a willing member of the class.
Prof. Akpan, Deputy Vice-chancellor at the Akwa Ibom State University, hosted the group at HEROES WORLD (his family outfit) at No.51, Itu Road, Off Ikpa Road, Uyo.
The occasion began at about 5:00 p.m. with prayers offered by Elder Eyaekop Umanah, a retired Permanent Secretary, now Commissioner of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).
Thereafter, the G-74 President, Engr. Idorenyin Udi, presented the opening remarks.
Udi, who recalled that the group had come a long way, added that with the cooperation of members, the G-74 had remained focused on its mandate to ensure the unity of members
He also called for suggestions that would ensure that the group remained strong enough for members and their families.
He said that with members’ support, there were no doubts that the G-74 as a group would remain a destination of choice for members.
Also speaking, Prof. Ifiok Nkanga, who attended with his daughter, told the group that, at the last get-together at Mrs Umoetuk’s residence inin Uyo, decisions reached by the group were not carried out to the letter.
He urged the group to be steadfast in executing its resolutions.
Similarly, Elder Umanah, who also came with his son to grace the occasion, said that it was important that resolutions by the group were implemented.
There were suggestions that meetings be held more regularly or at least, quarterly, with willing and robust financial contributions by members.
At that point, Prof. Dianabasi Eduwem, who also attended the end-of-year get-together with his dear wife, said that though the group needed a robust financial muscle to execute its decisions, it was conceived to encourage conviviality and relaxation devoid of stress for members.
He said that members of the group also took it upon themselves to assist one another in times of need.
As part of a Some resolutions reached, the House mandated Mr. Dianabasi Effiong, a retired Director in the federal civil service, to be the group’s secretary.
The group also directed, in a unanimous decision, directed, that Mrs. Idongesit Obassi, a retired banker., become its substantive treasurer.
The appointees are expected to work in tandem with the President to ensure the execution of the group’s decisions and programmes.
There were other highlights – Essien Ndarake attended with his family; Enefiok Udoh, a serving Principal General in the state, attended with his dear wife, and Mr Idongesit Ndem also made the roll call as the meeting progressed.
Bassey Umoafia, Peter Raphael, and Pastor Effefiong Effiom called in to interact with the attendees.
Mr Friday Ukim and Maurice Obot also sent their regards respectively to cheer on the group.
The general message was: ”If you see an opportunity that suits your friends and acquaintances, do not hesitate to link them up. The hate will be minimised when the whole squad is winning.”
Please recall that our first get-together hosted by the late Otuekong Idongesit Udokpoh was in 2004.
Udokpoh has since left us to the great beyond. May his soul rest in peace with His Creator.
The 2024 get-together made it 20 years since the Class came together as a group.
All the students enrolled in Class One in 1974 are automatic members of this forum.
The next host is expected to indicate interest as soon as possible.
