About five members of the Rapid d’intervention Battalions (BIR) of Cameroon were reportedly killed on Thursday morning at Bakassi Peninsula by the Biafra Separatist groups.
Sources close to the groups, said the attack was carried out by the Black Marine being the largest group, and the Dragon Fighter Marine associated with the Biafra Nations League (BnL).
The sources said, “as at early hours of today (Thursday) at 6am the group fired explosives without missing targets neutralizing two warships”.
In the past six weeks, since the arrest of Simon Ekpa the separatists groups have not been active and sources said this is “due to lack of funds”.
Commenting on the attack and situation on ground, the sources said, “the Warships have been withdrawn… situation is hot, our men are very much active now”.
When contacted, the BnL Leader, Princewill Chimezie Richards, boasted, “Biafra has come to stay in Bakassi, not even Cameroon can stop us”.
