It was typical case of unity in diversity, as Christians led by the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Beta Edu and Muslims led by the Chairman of the University of Calabar Governing Council and Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero broke the Ramadan fast together in Calabar.
Both Christians and Muslims gathered in large number in Dr. Edu’s house eating and merry, exchanging pleasantries after the Muslim faithfuls had performed their ablution (wudu).
The unique event happened on Wednesday, when Dr Edu hosted the Emir and his litany of entourage, the Acting Governor of Cross River State, Rt Hon Peter Odey, the Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi and host of others to the breaking of Fast (Iftar) in her House in Calabar..

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, led the Chairman and members of the University’s Governing Council, the University Management, and the entire University Community, including students .
The Leadership of the Muslim Community In Cross River state and other Muslim faithfuls were also in attendance.
Edu said, “the breaking of fast gathering happened at a time when the Christian faithfuls were also observing their annual lent.
“Nigeria is indeed a God’s own country as its leadership under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to fostering unity, cultural appreciation, and interfaith harmony in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda”.
She wished “Ramadan Kareem to the Muslim Faithfuls and happy Golden Jubilee celebrations to my Alma Mater, University of Calabar”.
