Community Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Oku Ikono in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state has received a facelift.
In a press release from the Media Unit, Office of the First Lady, Akwa Ibom state, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the school took delivery of a renovated science laboratory equipped with science apparatus from the Office of the First Lady, Akwa Ibom State.
Recall that the wife of the Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, before her demise, had paid an unscheduled visit to the school and promised to renovate and equip the school’s science laboratory.
This is a promise fulfilled as the Coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, uring the handing-over ceremony of the project which held at the school premises charged the school authority and students to make good use and take proper care of the laboratory, which she said would help the students perform better in their academic exercise.
Lady Helen who was represented by the Chairman of the State Secondary Education Board, (SSEB), Dr. Ekaette Ebong, promised that the office of the First Lady would continue to collaborate with schools to further enhance the learning experience of the students.

“This was a promise made by our mother, Pastor Patience Umo Eno and for people like her, a promise made, must be a promise kept and today, we have seen that that promise has been kept.
“I want to urge every student who is science based to understand that this laboratory is made for you. It will make you to understand many things. It will make you to think critically and it will help you perform well in school,” she stated.
The Principal of the School, Mrs Nse Eyibio in her welcome address, expressed delight that their request for a multi-purpose science laboratory has been fulfilled.
She praised Governor Umo Eno and the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady for keeping the promise made by Pastor Patience Umo Eno during her visit to the school for the celebration of the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child.
To ensure the effective use of the fully equipped multi-purpose laboratory for learning, Eyibio requested 150 stools, gas cylinders, proper lighting, and security measures for the facility, additions that she emphasized are needed, to further achieve the intended purpose of the laboratory.
In a note of appreciation, the Senior Girls’ Prefect of the School, Miss Aniediongo Joseph, commended Lady Obareki for her unwavering commitment and dedication to educational advancement, stating that the state-of-the-art science laboratory will create access to quality learning and ignite the passion for science and innovation.
