Calabar Municipal Council has declared as illegal activities of some persons going about extorting money from members of the public for street naming.
A statement on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary of the Council, Mr. Oqua Etim said the attention of the Mayor of Calabar, Rt Hon James 0. Anam has been drawn to the activities of some persons or group of persons who have been going about fraudulently collecting from unsuspecting residents of Calabar Municipality for the purpose of naming streets after them.
He said the public is hereby informed that, “the Calabar Municipal Council has not contracted anybody or Agent to collect monies for street naming.
“All those carrying out this illegal act are doing so at their peril, and are advised to desist from such acts forthwith”.
The Calabar Municipal Council, Anam said “will officially communicate to the entire public the appropriate processes for street naming at the appropriate time.
“In the meantime, anyone seeking information as regards naming of streets in Calabar Municipality should get in touch with the Supervisor for Finance and Internal Affairs in Calabar Municipal Council for such information”.
