The Parish Priest of St. Mary Pro-Cathedral Calabar, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, has commended the governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru for being committed to his Christian faith despite being a public official.
In a statement made available to Pillar Today, the priest said, “unlike Muslims in public office, very often Christians in public office shy away from identifying with their faith, hiding under the cloak of Nigeria being a secular state.
“But Governor Nwifuru is able to balance being a public servant and being a man of faith and this is commendable”.
The former Director Church and Society of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, commended the governor also for his drive towards “manpower development in Ebonyi State by the sheer number of Ebonyi citizens the governor has put through vocational training including those the government is sending abroad on scholarship”.
In a telephone conversation with the governor, the priest prayed for the success of hs administration and commended him “to the intercession and protection of the Virgin Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help”.
