Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has announced the extension of the state’s local government council election by one week, with a new date set for Saturday, November 2, 2024.
CROSIEC had earlier scheduled the council polls for October 26.
The Chairman of the commission, Dr. Ekong Edet Boco, made the announcement after a meeting with members of the State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Calabar on Friday.
This decision came following an appeal by IPAC to the governor for the extension of the election date and a review of nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship nomination forms.
In another development, CROSIEC has reduced the nomination fee for chairmanship from N5 million to one million naira and councillorship from one million naira to N200,000.
Chairman of IPAC in Cross River, Engr Effiom Edet Okon praised the governor for accommodating their requests and pledged to collaborate with CROSIEC to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.
The campaign by political parties is now scheduled to end on Friday, November 1, 2024 as contained in the release.
