Calabar Municipal Council has raised the alarm over an abandoned communication mast in Calabar.
The mast was abandoned 20 years ago with no maintenance.
A statement dated March 27 and signed by the Chief Press Secretary of Calabar Municipality, Oqua Etim, ordered the unnamed owner to remove it immediately.
The statement said the Municipality “wishes to bring to the notice of the general public the impending disaster posed by an abandoned communication mast located behind the Cross River State Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service along IBB Way, Calabar, which has been left moribund for over 20 years without maintenance.
“This abandoned structure poses a significant risk to lives and property in the surrounding area”.
With the expected rainfall and wind, the statement stated that “there is a high likelihood that the Mast could collapse, resulting in loss of lives and property worth millions of Naira.
“The Calabar Municipal Council is by this announcement requesting the owner to remove the Mast within 21 days from the date of this announcement, otherwise the Council will do same at the owner’s cost”.
