Governor Bassey Edet Otu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to grassroots development and community engagement following a recent visit to inspects projects in central and northern parts of state.
The inspection visit, according to a release by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, took the Governor to Yakurr and Ikom Local Government Areas (LGA) and the northern part of the State, providing opportunity for the Governor to assess ongoing projects, strengthen ties with the community, and reinforce his commitment to inclusive governance.
Addressing community leaders, local government officials, and residents, Governor Otu expressed gratitude for their unwavering support.
At Yakurr he commended the Chairman for his notable achievements within a short time and hinted at increased funding to accelerate local development efforts.
In Ikom Local Government Area, the Governor, accompanied by the Chairman, Hon. Mercy Nsor, inspected ongoing road construction projects at Four Corners in Ikom Urban and Nde Community.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to improve road infrastructure, emphasizing its role in strengthening local economies and enhancing connectivity across communities.
Governor Otu further emphasized the need to bolster key sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure, stating that his administration is actively addressing illegal mining activities that threaten the livelihoods of local communities.
He also announced plans for a new train terminal, a project expected to enhance transportation and stimulate economic activities in the region.
Highlighting his stance on political neutrality, Governor Otu urged stakeholders to prioritize governance over party politics saying, “this is a time for development, not political distractions,” and called for collective efforts to advance the state’s interests.
He also addressed the ongoing asset recovery efforts, reaffirming his administration’s determination to reclaim mismanaged public assets and reinvest them in projects that directly benefit the people.
In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Yakurr and Ikom LGAs welcomed the Governor’s visit, describing it as a testament to his leadership style, which prioritizes action over publicity.
They noted that their administrations had embarked on renovation projects to improve council buildings and had also launched skills training programs to empower residents with sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The Chairmen also highlighted the overwhelming community support for the current administration, citing positive feedback from residents on recent developmental efforts.
They pledged their continued alignment with the Governor’s vision for sustainable growth and governance.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress in Yakurr, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ofem Ubana, commended the improvements in infrastructure and environmental cleanliness.
He praised Governor Otu’s support, describing it as crucial to the region’s recovery and development.
“Our land is becoming what we have always envisioned—a place of order, beauty, and opportunity,” the monarch remarked, urging all stakeholders to maintain a cooperative and forward-thinking approach to development.
Governor Otu’s visit underscored his administration’s focus on impactful governance, with strategic investments in transportation, education, and economic revitalization. By fostering collaboration between the government, local authorities and the communities, his leadership is setting the stage for a more prosperous and united Cross River State.
