The Lawmaker representing Yala I State Constituency Hon. Odey Brian Wonah has described the early assent to the Local Government Amendment Bill 2025 as a demonstration of the State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu’s commitment to sustainable growth across the State.
The Lawmaker who Co-sponsored the bill, spoke to journalists in the Assembly’s Complex in Calabar after the day’s session.
Wonah who is also the Chairman, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the Assembly, expressed joy at the Governor’s early assent to the legislation which according to him is aimed at expanding governance as well as developing the rural areas.
According to him, Governor Otu’s early assent to the LG law is a testimony of his deliberate efforts to reposition Cross River State holistically and transform the rural areas.
Wonah further lauded Governor Otu on his efforts towards infrastructural development in the State. He particularly praised the Governor’s recent efforts towards rural electrification.
“As you are aware the State recently took delivery of 10,000 solar home systems to power remote communities across the State. This is evidence that our governor is dedicated to rural development.
“This solar power initiative shows the Governor’s dedication to rural development which will further enhance economic activities in those areas.” Odey stated”.
The Lawmaker maintained that the rural electrification initiative will boost socio economic activities in the rural areas, reduce unemployment as well as rural-urban migration.
On the recent emergence of the Governor as the Vice Chairman South-South Governors Forum, he expressed gratitude to God for the honour describing it as well deserved.
“I heartily congratulate His Excellency, the Governor on this feat. This will further enhance the image of our state. This recognition is well deserved”, Wonah added.
